Update 06/01/2021

Good evening,

I think we need to start with ‘happy new year’ and I hope you all had a great Christmas break. I think it is fair to say that a lot has happened since Christmas.

I am sorry for the late and early messages now and this week. I and all the staff appreciate your support and understanding and all the staff have been working extremely hard to reduce the impact of the lockdown on the children and learning.

Key Worker Provision

Important Message

The government has closed schools and switched to online learning to reduce the transmission of the virus, protect the NHS and to protect people. Key worker provision in school must only be used for vulnerable children and when key workers need to work. If one member of the household is at home or working from home, the key worker place should not be used.

We had five bubbles yesterday and seven today. We are hoping to keep that the same during the duration of the lockdown. The staff are working really hard to shield your children from the impact of the changes and the atmosphere in school is lovely.

We are keeping families in the same bubble to further reduce the risk of transmission and that has led to a variety of pupils of different ages in bubbles. We are providing curriculum based activities in school but we are not providing standard schooling as this is emergency keyworker provision.

  • Mrs Cox will provide support for KS2 staff with EYFS and KS1 pupils.
  • Miss Warburton will provide support for EYFS and KS1 staff with KS2  pupils.
  • Miss Graham will support with all SEND pupils.
  • Miss Weir is supporting learning for keyworker children and online home learning.

Home Learning

We sent booklets home in October for pupils to work on now and our home learning package will be ready by Monday. We will be using the google classrooms and we will send printed work as needed. Please use the class email and office@st-james.derbyshire.sch.uk to ask questions and request bespoke support and we will do our best to help.

If you could follow this link ‘https://whitfieldstjamesprimary.co.uk/class-pages/google-classrooms/‘ to set up your child’s account ahead of Monday that would be appreciated. Any issues please contact Mr Ford on lford@st-james.derbyshire.sch.uk who will be able to help.

All parents will be contacted by phone at least once every two weeks but please contact school if you have any questions.

The parents remote learning guidance and expectations will be put on the website by the end of the week.

Thank you again for all of your support, stay safe and look after yourselves.

Mr Woodward
